This was a new residence, which was constructed on a most undesirable, ledge filled lot, in Arlington, MA. The multi-leveled home of approximately 3000 square feet is positioned above and quite close to the street, in an older neighborhood.
The homeowners, a mature woman and her elderly mother, asked us to create a home without access restrictions throughout entire interior and exterior environment. The private rooms of the bedrooms are secluded of the upper floors, which are separated by no more than 6 steps. The first floor includes a central stair and elevator serving every level from the Garage to bedroom floors. Only a minimal basement was created for the mechanical systems due to extensive areas of ledge. The Hall separates the Living Room, Kitchen and Dining Room from the Study/home office. The Dining Room is designed to seat 6-8 family members at a round table. The Kitchen is a galley-style but with extensive storage cabinets and light-commercial appliances.
Our role in this project was as the architectural firm, being responsible for the design, documents and supervision during construction. We also provided full services for land development, structure and mechanical & electrical engineering. |
